What You Will Do

  • Monitor, control, and direct as required, the operation of the GrandBridge Energy Inc. (GBE) power distribution system during normal and emergency operating conditions including:
    • Being cognizant of the importance of safety to GrandBridge Energy staff, contractors, and the public.
    • Overhead and underground distribution system with primary voltages ranging from 8.32/4.8kV to 27.6/16kV.
    • 230kV transmission connected 27.6kV DESN Transformer Stations.
  • Adhere to all OH&SA rules and regulations, the IHSA rulebook, GBE operating procedures, work practices and Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Administer Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC) by issuing work permits, hold-offs, station guarantees, preparing switching orders, and reviewing switching instructions for the field crews to facilitate the maintenance and construction activities.
  • Maintain and update key Control Room systems including the Outage Management System (OMS), AutoCAD Schematics, the SCADA system, Excel spreadsheets and MS Access logs.
  • Conduct in a professional and courteous demeanor when dealing with all customers and staff. Communicate with precision and clarity when dealing with the First Responders: Fire, Police and Ambulance departments during emergencies.
  • Participate and contribute in distribution system planning and grid automation initiatives. Provide input by identifying the areas for improved system reliability, efficiency, and greater operating flexibility while contributing to faster grid response.
  • Liaise with other controlling authorities including, neighbouring LDCs, Hydro One, and the IESO to ensure that procedures are followed within the pre-established market rules and operating guidelines.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and service requests, and dispatch appropriate personnel.

 

What You Will Bring

  • Electrical Engineering Technician / Technologist Diploma preferred including electrical theory and distribution system fundamentals. Candidates with secondary education combined with equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment and individually.
  • Must possess strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and working knowledge of OMS, AutoCAD, GIS, CIS, and MS Access databases is considered an asset.
  • Flexibility to work different work hours including: 8hr and 12hr rotating shifts, weekends, nights, on-call, and extended emergency hours during adverse weather events.
  • Knowledge of Control Room systems (i.e., OMS, SCADA, AutoCAD, etc.) and operating procedures are considered an asset.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class ‘G’ license
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
