What You Will Do
Are you seeking a dynamic role within the utility industry, which is currently experiencing significant changes? Do you possess the leadership qualities, strategic thinking, and commitment necessary to guide a team towards enhancing their skills and becoming industry leaders? This opportunity offers the chance to broaden your leadership horizon and play a crucial role in the energy transition. Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management & Planning as a key contributor in the Grid Modernization department, you will contribute to a diverse range of initiatives, including distribution infrastructure projects, electrification, innovation, and grid modernization efforts. Below are the detailed responsibilities for this pivotal position.
- Conduct regular inspections of electrical distribution equipment, including poles, transformers, conductors, switches, and structures.
- Systematically collect and document field data on asset condition, performance, and operational status using established protocols and tools.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, highlighting findings, potential issues, and recommendations for maintenance or replacement.
- Generate weekly status reports using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Work closely with Distribution System Operations (DSO), Engineering, and Operations teams to share inspection results and coordinate repairs.
- Contribute to asset management strategies by providing accurate and timely data.
- Adhere to safety protocols, Ontario Regulation 22/04, industry standards, and company regulations during all inspection activities.
- Utilize tools such as tablets, laptops, and cameras to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of inspections.
- Familiarity with GIS software, mobile data collection apps, and tools like AutoCAD Map 3D or Esri to plan inspection routes and visualize asset distributions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and assist in developing best practices for asset condition monitoring.
What You Will Bring
- Powerline Technician Training with Journeyman Red Seal certification.
- General knowledge of line materials, trade-related practices, standards, and operating rules and regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for preparing reports and organizing data.
- Familiarity with mobile data collection applications and GIS software for efficient field data input and route planning.
- Proven experience in electrical distribution systems, asset inspections, or related fields.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
