Indigenous Relations

GrandBridge Energy is committed to building and maintaining respectful and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities in our service area, which includes the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe Peoples.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that the land we are on is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe Peoples.

We also acknowledge the enduring presence and deep traditional knowledge and philosophies of the Indigenous Peoples with whom we share this land today.

GrandBridge Energy recognizes that Truth and Reconciliation is a continuous process and while this land acknowledgement is a crucial step, it is just the beginning. We are committed to continuous learning and building positive relationships with Indigenous Peoples.

Learning about Truth and Reconciliation

In 2023, GrandBridge Energy established a relationship with Woodland Cultural Centre. We took the initiative to educate our entire Management Team and Board of Directors by visiting the Woodland Cultural Centre (WCC) in Brantford.

The WCC serves to preserve, promote and strengthen Indigenous language, culture, art and history; bringing the story of the Hodinohsho:ni people of the Eastern Woodlands to life through innovative exhibitions and programs.

Our leaders and Board members participated in Truth & Reconciliation training, including a tour of the former Mohawk Institute Residential School.  We were pleased to present WCC with a cheque for $5,000 to support their Language Program. The Woodland Cultural Centre Language Department and Resource Centre is dedicated to strengthening, revitalizing and maintaining First Nations Languages, locally, regionally, and nationally.

We continued our commitment to learning in 2024, by providing Truth and Reconciliation to all employees so that we can more clearly understand our role in reconciliation. Once again, the training was provided by our partner WCC and we were pleased to provide them with another $5,000 donation.

Indigenous Support

GrandBridge Energy is proud to provide corporate sponsorships and donations to support various Indigenous organizations in the communities we serve.

Southwestern Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC)

The Southwestern Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a valuable resource for Indigenous Peoples in Waterloo Wellington as well as the surrounding communities of Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

GrandBridge Energy visited SOAHAC in December 2024 to learn about the caring and welcoming environment that they offer. For the second year in a row, we presented SOAHAC with a cheque for $2,500 to support their Social Emergency Fund, which provides access to food, shelter, clothing, footwear and helps cover household costs, prescription medications and wellness products. As an Aboriginal Health Access Centre, SOAHAC provides innovative, Indigenous-informed health care to First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities.

Six Nations Polytechnic

In 2023, GrandBridge Energy created a bursary for students enrolled in the Women in Welding Program at Six Nations Polytechnic in Brantford. Six Nations Polytechnic is a unique postsecondary organization, recognized by the community, government, and institutions of higher learning, as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge.

GrandBridge Energy visited SOAHAC for a second year to provide another donation and learn more about their essential services.
