Types of Outages

Remember, outages are part of maintaining a reliable electrical system, whether planned or unplanned.

Description: Crews are scheduled in advance to perform necessary work to improve reliability in a specific area.

Example: A utility pole that needs replacement. The scheduled outage allows crews to safely replace the pole, ensuring a reliable and efficient electrical system.

Description: Urgent outages require quick action for necessary repairs. While not emergencies, they can’t be delayed indefinitely.

Example: Electrical equipment with wear and tear that could fail if not addressed promptly. The outage is identified and scheduled to minimize disruption to customers.

Description: Emergency outages are immediate and essential for safety. They occur within the hour to make critical repairs.

Example: A broken utility pole caused by a vehicle accident. Crews need to act swiftly to prevent further damage or danger.

Outage Classification

Depending on the work our crews need to complete, there are two planned outage classifications:

Short-Term Outages – Less Than One Hour

When we expect to disconnect your power for less than one hour, we will try to notify you of the outage in advance.

Longer Outages – Over One Hour

Where a planned outage is expected to last longer than one hour, we aim to provide you with at least two days advance notice.

Prepare for Planned Outages

To protect your safety and that of our crews, here are some essential things you can do to prepare for a planned outage.

  • Make alternative plans to maintain the use of medical support equipment that is dependent on electricity.
  • Ensure your emergency kit is well-stocked. It should include essentials like first aid supplies, batteries, and non-perishable food.
  • Avoid using open flames (like candles) near flammable materials. Have flashlights, lanterns, and candles readily available
  • Ensure that the oven and all burners on the stove are turned OFF at the start of the planned outage and that nothing has been placed on top of the stove that could ignite when the power is restored. GrandBridge Energy is not liable for any resulting loss or damage.
  • Minimize the opening of refrigerator and freezer doors to maintain temperature.
  • Unplug electronic equipment before the outage begins. Televisions and computer equipment are sensitive to surges when the power is restored.
  • Do not use charcoal or gas barbeques, camping heating equipment, or standby generators indoors.
  • Operate a portable generator outdoors, positioned carefully to ensure that fumes do not enter the building.
  • Notify your security company if they are monitoring your home or business.
Confirm that you know how to override or manually operate your garage doors.
