GrandBridge Energy is giving the Conestoga College Powerline Technician Program a lift by donating two utility vehicles, a bucket truck and a pickup truck, to enhance the college’s hands-on learning. GrandBridge Energy team members, including Apprentice Powerline Technicians, were on hand in Ingersoll to hand over the keys to the two vehicles.
As part of GrandBridge Energy’s plan to modernize its fleet, the utility identified a 2009 International Double Bucket Truck and a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Truck to donate to the Conestoga College Powerline Technician program. In 2022, GrandBridge donated a single bucket truck, two pickup trucks and a single axle pole trailer to the program, which were greatly appreciated and contributed to students’
hand-on learning.
“Our donation of two utility vehicles reinforces the strong relationship that GrandBridge Energy and Conestoga College have built over several years. We are committed to fostering learning opportunities that support the next generation of skilled trades professionals who will play a key role in the future success of our industry,” said Sarah Hughes, President and CEO of GrandBridge Energy.
“We are very grateful to GrandBridge Energy for their continuous support and generosity,” said Angelo Cosco, Chair, School of Trades & Apprenticeship at Conestoga. “This donation will enable our students to learn and train with modern technology, ensuring they are prepared with the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers. We look forward to continuing our partnership and working together to support the next generation of skilled trades professionals.”
GrandBridge Energy Powerline Technician Apprentices Thomas Rerrie and Ethan Bruce were on hand and attest to the value that the vehicles will bring to the Conestoga College Powerline Technician Program. Rerrie and Bruce graduated from the program in 2023, and both served a co-op term at GrandBridge Energy.
“Using utility equipment as part of my training at Conestoga helped me build confidence and develop vital skills that can only be achieved through hands-on learning,” said Bruce.
“Training with utility vehicles at Conestoga’s Ingersoll Skills Training Centre allowed me to gain practical experience to prepare for real-life situations in the workplace,” said Rerrie.
GrandBridge Energy proudly employs many graduates of Conestoga’s Powerline Technician Program.
Co-op and summer student opportunities in several departments at GrandBridge Energy allow students to build valuable work experience while completing their studies. GrandBridge Energy presents three Academic Excellence Awards annually to Conestoga students studying Energy Systems Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology and Electrical Techniques.
