GrandBridge Energy and Sustainable Waterloo Region Team Up to Expand Microforest Program in Cambridge

Creating Thriving and Sustainable Communities

October 28, 2025

Cambridge, ON (October 28, 2025) GrandBridge Energy and Sustainable Waterloo Region (SWR) recently teamed up to plant a new microforest at the Fountain Street Soccer Complex in Cambridge—enhancing local biodiversity and community green space. The planting included 100 native trees and shrubs, comprised of 22 species, to enrich the local ecosystem and support community sustainability.

This marks the fifth microforest project funded by GrandBridge Energy and brought to life through the hands-on efforts of employee volunteers. The initiative reflects the company’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship, community engagement and sustainability—core principles embedded in GrandBridge Energy’s Strategic Plan and showcased in its 2024 Corporate Responsibility Report.

“Microforests do more than beautify our surroundings — they support wildlife, absorb carbon and clean the air we breathe, aligning with our ambition to enable our communities to create a sustainable and resilient future,” said Sarah Hughes, President & CEO of GrandBridge Energy. “We’re proud to partner with Sustainable Waterloo Region to take visible, local action that demonstrates our shared commitment to environmental sustainability.”

“We are so very grateful to GrandBridge Energy for being a long-term supporter and partner of the work we do at SWR,” said Tova Davidson, Executive Director at SWR. “From carbon accounting to community impact tracking and reductions, and now planting trees, the good folks at GrandBridge Energy are always supporting the work of transitioning to a sustainable community. This microforest is such a wonderful gift not only to the community today, but to the future adults, children, and seniors that will sit in its shade and benefit from all that microforest offers.”

The creation of a local microforest highlights GrandBridge Energy’s commitment to taking measurable environmental action as part of its broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.

Microforests are small, densely planted areas of native trees and shrubs designed to return the land back to its natural state. These thriving micro-ecosystems provide significant ecological benefits, allowing biodiversity to flourish, even within urban environments. The Fountain Street Soccer Complex is a vibrant community hub, often filled with families and children enjoying soccer and other activities. This planting, part of the Sustainable Waterloo Region Microforest Program, will help ensure the area continues to deliver environmental benefits for generations to come.

GrandBridge Energy remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainability, with plans to expand environmental initiatives, strengthen reporting transparency, and further embed sustainable practices across its operations.
