Umar Waqas is the Vice-President of Grid Modernization at GrandBridge Energy Inc.

Umar Waqas is an innovative leader in the utility sector, with a strong focus on customer-centric solutions. As Vice President, Grid Modernization at GrandBridge Energy, Umar leads engineering, customer connections, planning, asset management, innovation, and grid operations, including the system control centre, transformer stations, metering, and distributed energy resources. He drives initiatives to modernize the grid, thereby improving reliability, enhancing resiliency, and supporting the energy transition to meet evolving customer needs.

Previously, Umar served as Vice President of Engineering and Continuous Improvement at GrandBridge Energy, where he led key engineering, metering, and generation projects. He also chaired the organization’s merger integration program, aligning resources and strategic goals during a pivotal transformation.

Umar continues to lead corporate projects that align with GrandBridge Energy’s strategic objectives in energy transition, sustainability, and cost-efficiency. A registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, he holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University and an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University.
