Business Support Services: Understanding Power Factor, Bills & Rates

Send a Power Factor Analysis Request

If your facility has a power factor below 90%, you may be subject to additional demand charges that can increase your electricity costs. GrandBridge Energy can help you understand how your power factor is affecting your bill and identify the potential financial implications. Submit a Power Factor Analysis request to have our team review your account and provide your latest 12-months of billing and an estimated impact on the delivery component of your bill to help you better understand your facility’s power factor. Please include your account number, service address and contact information.

Understanding Your Electricity Bill

Your electricity bill includes several components that together make up your total electricity costs, including electricity charges, delivery charges, regulatory charges and HST. Each reflects a different part of supplying and delivering electricity to your business. Understanding these charges, what they represent and how they are calculated, can help you better understand your energy costs and manage your electricity use. Explore the key components of your GrandBridge Energy bill.

Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI)

The Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI) helps large electricity users manage Global Adjustment (GA) costs by reducing or shifting electricity use during periods of peak provincial demand. Customers may qualify if their average monthly peak demand is over 500 kW and under 5 MW, with specific eligibility requirements for customers between 500 kW and 1 MW. Customers with average demand above 5 MW automatically qualify.

Important ICI Information

GrandBridge Energy will contact customers who are eligible to participate in the Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI). Each ICI cycle begins with a base period from May 1 to April 30, after which customers are assessed for eligibility. Eligible customers must opt in or out of the program by June 15. The adjustment period begins July 1. If you have questions, we encourage you to reach out to our team.
For complete program rules and requirements, refer to O. Reg. 429/04 (as amended).

Set Up Your Large Customer Account

Complete an Interval Commercial Form

To set up your large customer account, we’ll need some important information about your business operations, including billing and energy management details, as well as key on-site contacts. As part of the application, you’ll also be required to provide a copy of your Articles of Incorporation and information about your anticipated load requirements. Providing complete and accurate information will help our team efficiently establish your account and ensure we have the right contacts and details to support your ongoing electricity needs.

Large commercial customers must demonstrate seven consecutive years of good payment history, as outlined in GrandBridge Energy’s Conditions of Service. Security deposits can be paid to GrandBridge Energy upon account set up by cheque or money order and are reviewed annually, with the amount subject to increase or decrease based on your load profile. Specific security deposit refund requirements apply to accounts with demand greater than 5,000 kW. For complete requirements and details, please refer to Sections 2.4.3.4 through 2.4.3.11 of our Conditions of Service.
